Abruzzo is a slighty unknown and definitely underestimated region in central Italy.
The area consists out of four provinces: L’Aquila, Chieti, Pescara and Teramo. Each province has its own specialties. The main attraction of Abruzzo are the National Parks. You will find 4 amazing parks within Abruzzo. They are all located where the Apennine mountain range crosses Abruzzo. Abruzzo is the only region in Italy where you will find larger wildlife, bears and wolfs are still able to survive in this region. Another great attraction of Abruzzo are the many beautiful little villages which the Italians call ‘Borghi’. Often built on the most amazing spots in Abruzzo.
Also for people that like beaches Abruzzo has much to offer. All along the coastline of Abruzzo you will find great beaches. From wide and sandy beaches like in Pescara to small secluded pebble beaches.

L’Aquila in the western part of Abruzzo is a green area with three national parks and lots of beautiful medieval places to visit, such as Santo Stefano di Sessanio.
Chieti in the south-east at the Adriatic, with its small capital Chieti, has nice hilly landscapes and beautiful beaches at the so called Trabocchi coast. Trabocchi are fishing platforms along the coast.
The province of Pescara with its modern capital Pescara in the middle of Abruzzo has a great variety of landscapes and some beautiful Borghi (ancient towns) to visit like Abbateggio.
Teramo in the north has nice 4 star campsites along the coast at Tortoreto.


The Abruzzo area boasts of a lot of variety in landscapes and possibilities. In spring you can have a morning skitrip in the mountains at Rocca Raso with its 100 km of skiing slopes and for an après ski you go to the nearby beaches to relax and enjoy the sun.
You can hike in Majella park, where wolves search for pray. Go back in time and visit ancient towns, the “Borghi più belli”.
Abruzzo is famous about its fantastic food like the spagetti alla Chitarra, Carne alla Brace, Arrosticini and many more.
